La osteopatia, del griego osteon (hueso) y patos (enfermedad) es una medicina manual muy sutil. Es considerada como el arte, la ciencia o la técnica para diagnosticar y tratar el disfuncionamiento del cuerpo humano por medio de manipulaciones que tienen por objetivo mejorar la estructura musculo-esquelética. El osteópata, manipulando el sistéma musculo-esquelético busca conocer si el sistema de articulaciones y musculos està correctamente alineado y si funciona bien o si por el contrario un accidente, una mala posición o el estrés psicológico lo han alterado.En la teoria de la osteopatia esta alteración del sistema musculo-esquelético provoca un disfuncionamiento local o regional de las funciones nerviosas y asi una alteración de las funciones de los diferentes órganos vitales. Las bases de la osteopatía fueron establecidas por un médico Americano, el Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, en 1872. Desde entonces la Osteopatñia ha tenido un largo desarrollo siendo Irvin Korr, en Europa, su más importante figura.
